Here's how to set up your Blackmagic capture and playback device for streaming from any creative software. This works with Evercast for Mac or Windows.
If you have a multi-input/output capture and playback device (such as the DeckLink Duo 2 or UltraStudio 4K Mini), you can capture output from your device with a "hardware loop."
-
Plug an HDMI or SDI cable into an available output on your Blackmagic hardware.
-
Then connect the other end of the cable to an input on the same hardware. Evercast captures the Blackmagic device output and streams it to the room.
-
Confirm that the signal is working. You should see your video in the main DeckLink stream and in the video preview of the Stream DeckLink menu.
Tip
If you aren’t getting a signal and the video preview is blank in the Stream DeckLink menu, check your cables and connections. Make sure you are using the same output and input values (for example SDI A out ↔ SDI A in or HDMI out ↔ HDMI in).
If you are still running into issues, contact Support.
You can use two separate capture and playback devices in parallel to capture playback. These two devices can be connected to the same system with Thunderbolt or USB 3.0.
We recommend streaming on one machine if an SDI/HDMI monitor is needed on location for the editor and an air-gapped configuration isn’t required.
Some workstations are required to be “air-gapped” from the internet, meaning that they may only have access to the local networks or local storage and not to the internet. These setups are typically used for security purposes at facilities or on studio premises.
In this scenario, the workstation outputs to a playback device through SDI or HDMI. The playback device connects to a separate capture device, then to a dedicated streaming machine with internet access that is running Evercast.
This setup has the added advantage of removing the encoding processing burden from the workstation, which may improve streaming quality.
