The Network connectivity icon in the lower corner of your thumbnail can give you information about your network connection and CPU usage. This information can be used to diagnose issues with streaming quality or room performance.
When you click on the Network connectivity icon, a window will pop up over the thumbnail showing that user's connection information. To close the window, click on the X on the top right.
You can view network connectivity for yourself and for other participants in your room.
Note
When using Evercast for Chrome, you will see four items in your Network connectivity info panel: Download speed, Upload speed, Round trip time, and Jitter.
When using Evercast for Mac or Windows, you will see five more items: Connection type, CPU type, CPU usage, System version, and Operating system.
Here is more information about each item in the info panel.
-
Download speed or Average download speed: This shows how much of your internet bandwidth is used by your Evercast room. A room with four participants and a screen share in the main window would use less bandwidth than a room with twelve participants and an HD stream.
-
Upload speed or Average upload speed: This shows how much internet bandwidth you are using to send video to your Evercast room. This includes your webcam video and any stream or screen share you might be sending.
-
Round trip time: This measures how long it takes for data to go from you, to the Evercast room, and back to you. This is also called "ping" or "ping time". Two Evercast users in Arizona would have a shorter round trip time between them than would an Evercast user in New Zealand conferencing with an Evercast user in New York.
-
Jitter: This measures the variation in time delay (latency) between when a signal is sent over a network and when it's received. An example of jitter is when you are in a video conference and someone's video slows and gets choppy or glitchy, then seems to speed up or "fast forward" to catch up. Jitter can be caused by network congestion.
-
Connection type: This shows whether you are connected to the internet with WiFi or with an Ethernet cable.
If your computer has both connections, your info panel will default to show WiFi. When you turn off WiFi in your system preferences, the info panel will show Ethernet.
-
CPU type: This displays the brand of your CPU (e.g. Apple M2 or Intel x86).
-
CPU usage: This percentage shows how much CPU power is being used by your Evercast app. Streamers will use more CPU than viewers, since their CPU has to encode the video.
On multi-core computers you can see CPU usage numbers of greater than 100%, since one core fully utilized is considered to be 100%; so a 4-core machine could go up to 400%, etc.
-
System version: This displays your OS version number.
-
Operating system: This states what type of OS you are using, such as Apple or Windows.
Notice
Known issues:
